This post is just an update as to what I have been up to lately! I hope that my readers are also well and I pray that Amaterasu-Omikami is shining down on you, even if you are in the UK like me!
Speaking with the kami
The last few weeks for me have been pretty interesting. I have been practicing my faith a lot more and I also now have new shrines in my home. Amaterasu-Omikami has been calling to me a lot and also has given me many messages for different people. Speaking of messages, I will soon open my Spiritual Services to the public. I have been doing some test runs on Tumblr and Etsy and have had 100% positive feedback. I have also found the kami are very talkative! I will make a new page regarding these services very soon.
I feel Inari’s kamidana is nicer than ever and almost complete! I still feel like I am missing some things and have a plan to purchase some lanterns when I am able to hang them up.
I am very proud of how far I have come with Inari’s kamidana and I think the tengui cloth and nobori just add to it. I asked Inari for a sign (specifically a dark blue horse with a blonde mane) if she would like me to paint the kamidana red and black. That night I dreamt that I had a collected of ‘my little pony’ toys which were dark blue with blonde manes! So that is a project I shall be doing soon! Inari is always so clear with her signs, it makes working with her a dream indeed!
I felt that I needed to give Amaterasu-Omikami a more prominent space in my home as I suffer from seasonal affective disorder which means a lack of natural sunlight will cause me to suffer from a crippling depression. I can often feel it starting and so this week I felt a bit down – as it’s approaching Autumn fast. When delivering messages from Amaterasu-Omikami she also spoke to me – softly and with a motherly quality. I soon realized I needed to make her a small ‘shrine’ – not as kamidana as of yet – to show her my appreciation for the sun.
Eventually I will order a kamidana for Amaterasu-Omikami but for now I have this:
The gorgeous image of her is by the artist ‘LePetiteMasquerade’ – you can find their artwork on Etsy. The small plush is of the video game character Amaterasu from ‘Okami’. This is a fun take on Shinto mythology and although I do not see Amaterasu-Omikami as that particular character, I felt it was aesthetically pleasing to have her on the shrine.
I have also ordered a Jinguu taime (ofuda of Amaterasu-Omikami) and an ofuda stand from Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America. I pray that they will be delivered here safely.
I don’t want to make this blog post too long so I will leave it as this. I will make some new posts soon and as always – if there is anything you would like to see me write about, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope you all had a wonderful Summer!
